As I was looking up info on Russel Simmons, I found this article on PBS, Who Made America?
It lists him as an innovator has a map & timeline of American innovators/innovations.
AW, how do you add links on the Innovation web idea links section of the blog?

Hi Judy,
ReplyDeleteYou are listed as an author on this website, so you can see if you are allowed to add web links directly from your end. Go to the "Customize" and try to edit the boxes of info on the right. If not, then I can add in links, if you let me know which ones. Before long, we are going to have a long list, and we'll have to look at categorizing the info for easy access. We will end up with a fairly nice list around the idea of social innovation.
Yes, Russell Simmons is an interesting artist, one of the first to really think about engaging and impacting youth culture. In the City, we are lucky to have YouthSpeaks and an artist like Marc Balmuthi Joseph working with SF kids in schools. Last year, Marcus called James Kass and Youth Speaks in hopes of partnering on the MLK study, but they were getting ready for their tour, so the timing didn't work out. Maybe we can try again. Another interesting connection would be the African American Shakespeare Company's MacB, a retelling of Macbeth set in the hip-hop industry. The performances are sponsored by the NEA, and that's a great idea to explore - that our nation funds the arts and arts education. Why?
I'll keep an eye out for the book and video of "They Made America."
